Why Old-Timers Hate When We F*cking Curse

I’ve been wanting to write this article for so fucking long lol. If you’ve watched even a minute of The Proprietor Lifestyle, you know that I curse a lot. It may have something to do with me being from New York. It may have something to do with me being a millennial. It ultimately may be me valuing content over context.

In my eyes, that’s what it all comes down to: content vs. context.

When I say content, I’m talking about something valuable. This includes a person, a conversation or a lesson. When I say context, I’m talking about an appearance. This includes a physical appearance, an accent or a hairstyle.

We’ve normalized so many things that we’ve become numb to context. We don’t care if someone filled with tattoos, a Brooklyn accent and a mohawk is teaching us, we’ll look past everything to understand the content that they’re providing. Just like racists can’t see past someone’s skin color or ethnicity, some can’t see past context.

Older generations seem to take context just as seriously as content which is ridiculous. Just because I curse when I talk doesn’t mean I’m uneducated or rude, it means that it’s part of my fucking vocabulary. Imagine listening to someone less intelligent but polite over someone who’s more intelligent but curses, all because of an image?

The same people who get offended by cursing are the same people who get upset at a baseball player taking “too long” to round the bases. Guess what? That sport that “isn’t being played the right way” is rapidly declining and playing it the proper way may end it for good. Those are also the same people who spend tons of money on billboard ads and Super Bowl commercials when it’s been proven that there are better ways to spend advertising money (I don’t know, like social media marketing?).

Have you noticed how more and more businesses are changing their dress code to business casual? You would be out of your mind to come to the office without a suit just 50 years ago. Now, people are wearing their favorite superhero shirt to work and nobody blinks an eye. Can you guess why? Yup, content over context.

Times are changing and there are a lot of naive people out there who will be left behind due to their resistance to adapt. I won’t change how I tawk because I’m from New York and if you don’t like it, fuck you.
